‘Girl power’ at Gourmet Abu Dhabi
Aside from the group activities, the six will each go solo during a dedicated three-day Pastry Promotion. First up is Rome-born Chef Loretta Fanella, one of the pastry world’s brightest stars, at the Yas Island Rotana Abu Dhabi, while South Africa’s chef Ruth Hinks – owner of the UK’s ‘Cocoa Black Chocolate and Pastry School’ – showcases at the Park Rotana Abu Dhabi, and America’s Chef Angela Pinkerton, head of the pastry team at New York’s renowned ‘Eleven Madison Park’ restaurant, will be at the Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi.
Aldar and Government reveal funding plans
Aldar yesterday revealed a funding framework with the Abu Dhabi Government including the sale of properties and the issuance of a bond. The company will sell to the Government Dh10.9 billion (US$2.96bn) of infrastructure assets on Yas Island, including the Ferrari World theme park, along with Dh5.5bn of residential units and land. It will also issue a Dh2.8bn convertible bond to Mubadala Development.

The park is one piece of a larger development plan that includes museums, luxury resorts and marinas on Yas Island.
Rock band wows 20,000 fans with Guns N’ Roses
Thousands of rock fans shook the Yas Island Arena in celebration last night as the rock band Guns N’ Roses took to the stage. The US rockers opened with the title track from their latest album, Chinese Democracy, with a flurry of fireworks before the stage was bathed in a red glow. The frontman and lead singer, Axl Rose, then delighted the crowd by playing one of the group’s biggest hits, Welcome to the Jungle.
Ferrari World opens to the public on Yas Island
Park manager Andy Keeling told Construction Week on Thursday night that the first official day had been well attended. He said that the company was going through a soft opening phase before its official opening in December and that they had been running at “about 70%” on opening day to ensure everything ran smoothly.

“Ferrari World is certainly going to impact Abu Dhabi’s property market in that the areas surrounding Yas Island such as Al Raha Beach and others will attract more visitors enabling these new communities to receive greater attention,” Loshini Lawrence, operations manager at the Better Homes real estate agency in Abu Dhabi told Arabian Business.
‘Ferrari World’ theme park to open in Abu Dhabi
The park – which until now has been closed to the media – will also feature a tower ride that shoots riders 62 meters (203 feet) in the air with G-forces that a race driver might feel, the largest collection of classic and modern Ferrari race cars outside of the company’s Maranello, Italy headquarters as well as an Italian restaurant inspired by Mamma Rossella, which is a favorite haunt of Ferrari drivers when they are in Italy. Visitors can stroll through a Ferrari paddock, handle tools used during races and train to be part of a pit crew which changes the tires on an F1 car.
Record drag time outside US set at Yas Marina
Rodney “Hot Rod” Fuller came agonisingly close to the magic milestone when he clocked 499.97kph (310.6mph) in race four of the 8,000horsepower Top Fuel Dragsters, covering the 402metre track in 3.898secs. The world record for the distance is 3.76secs.
