Aldar and Government reveal funding plans

Aldar yesterday revealed a funding framework with the Abu Dhabi Government including the sale of properties and the issuance of a bond. The company will sell to the Government Dh10.9 billion (US$2.96bn) of infrastructure assets on Yas Island, including the Ferrari World theme park, along with Dh5.5bn of residential units and land. It will also issue a Dh2.8bn convertible bond to Mubadala Development.

Thousands of rock fans shook the Yas Island Arena in celebration last night as the rock band Guns N’ Roses took to the stage. The US rockers opened with the title track from their latest album, Chinese Democracy, with a flurry of fireworks before the stage was bathed in a red glow. The frontman and lead singer, Axl Rose, then delighted the crowd by playing one of the group’s biggest hits, Welcome to the Jungle.

He said that the company was going through a soft opening phase before its official opening in December and that they had been running at “about 70%” on opening day to ensure everything ran smoothly.

The park – which until now has been closed to the media – will also feature a tower ride that shoots riders 62 meters (203 feet) in the air with G-forces that a race driver might feel, the largest collection of classic and modern Ferrari race cars outside of the company’s Maranello, Italy headquarters as well as an Italian restaurant inspired by Mamma Rossella, which is a favorite haunt of Ferrari drivers when they are in Italy. Visitors can stroll through a Ferrari paddock, handle tools used during races and train to be part of a pit crew which changes the tires on an F1 car.
