Seven Yas Island hotels nearly sold out for F1
“All of the hotels on the island are virtually full now [for the November F1],” said Stephen Banks, the director of sales and marketing at Aldar Hotels and Hospitality. “It’s obviously a very busy time for us. People want to be right on the track.”
Developers keep capital’s gas network plan alight
Property companies are pressing ahead with the development of gas networks in outlying parts of Abu Dhabi even though the Government has yet to give the green light to a comprehensive plan for the rest of the city. It is four years since the local gas distribution company Q Energy completed a critical preliminary stage of the project known as a “front-end engineering and design study”.
Feather in cap for Yas Marina Circuit
Yas’s dedicated drag lane, the first track outside of the USA to be recognised as part of the National Hot Rod Association [NHRA] worldwide racing facility, will play host to the inaugural Yas Drag Racing Festival on March 19-20. Rodney Fuller, one of the sport’s most well-known personalities, promised a baptism of thrills, spills and unadulterated speed.
Record drag time outside US set at Yas Marina
Rodney “Hot Rod” Fuller came agonisingly close to the magic milestone when he clocked 499.97kph (310.6mph) in race four of the 8,000horsepower Top Fuel Dragsters, covering the 402metre track in 3.898secs. The world record for the distance is 3.76secs.
Thrills and spills
In the second half of this year Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will open on Yas Island. Of the 20 rides at the amusement park, the most exciting will be the GT roller coaster. In a twist on the traditional roller coaster, two carriages will race along twisting parallel tracks to the finish line. Each is a replica of a Ferrari F430 Spider.
