Around Abu Dhabi in 36 hours
In Abu Dhabi for a business meeting? And you’ve heard so much about the emirate that you want to extend your stay by another two days to look around, but are unsure how to go about it? Help is at hand. Here’s an itinerary to make the most of a 36-hour tour of the UAE capital covering all its major attractions.
Seven series champions crowned
Seven champions were crowned as the first ever Pro Drag Racing series reached its climax at Yas Marina on Friday night. Between the championship win and prize money already paid out for each of the four rounds at the Yas Drag Racing Centre, the winners and runners-up shared a total purse of Dh1.4 million.
UAE market reports – Monday
The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) general index rose another 0.72 per cent yesterday, driven by gains in real estate, banking, energy and health care stocks. The ADX general index closed at 2,693 as investors purchased shares of Aldar Properies, Abu Dhabi’s real estate major at attractive prices.
Abu Dhabi eyes 1.9m hotel guests
“[Tourism] will stimulate and diversify the economy, generate new private sector opportunities and elevate the emirate’s international standing,” the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi has said in its policy agenda. Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum on Saadiyat Island should be ready in September 2013 and the Guggenheim Museum is set to open its doors to visitors in December 2013. The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority has a five-year plan under which it hopes to attract 2.7 million hotel guests a year.
Royal start to Abu Dhabi grand prix
King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, King Juan Carlos of Spain and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Friday witnessed the start of the F1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit.
All eyes on Yas Island’s music extravaganza
On the track it’s all eyes on the drivers, off it the attention has been turned to Flash Forum, Yas Island’s newest home of music. For four nights the 2,400-capacity venue at Yas Hotel has been taken over by the brains behind Beirut’s Skybar — now a world-famous music institution — hosting a stellar line-up of international artists.

Hoardings all over the UAE ask, ‘Where will you be on November 14, 2010?’ — and that precisely is the day when, once again Yas Island will come alive as champion drivers battle it out for the season-ending race of the Formula 1 championship.
