The high cost is partially explained by the additional work that needed to be done on the Yas Island off the coast of Abu Dhabi that hosts the race track and Bulgarian officials estimated it would take less to build a race track if the Dobroslavtsi air field near Sofia, earmarked for the purpose, is used.
Prince Abdulaziz within reach of glory in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East
The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East reaches its climax at Reem International Circuit, outside Riyadh, over the next nine days, with Saudi Arabia’s Prince Abdulaziz Al Faisal on the verge of creating history as the first winner of the drivers’ title. Prince Abdulaziz has won six out of eight rounds since the new one-make Porsche series was launched in Bahrain back in December, finishing second in each of the other two races.
Ferrari theme park set to open in Abu Dhabi
Ferrari World is the first ever theme park dedicated to the supercar brand Ferrari and is due to open in Abu Dhabi during 2010. The world first will be sited on Yas Island next door to Yas Marina circuit which is home to the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Bags are sifted and shorn of unnecessary ingredients: I have apparently spent the winter carrying around all manner of useful stuff, including a boarding card stub from Abu Dhabi, a printed copy of the 2009 Brazilian GP results, assorted taxi receipts and 17 ballpoint pens, most of which were assumed lost before they materialised in my computer backpack’s lower recesses.
Thrills and spills
In the second half of this year Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will open on Yas Island. Of the 20 rides at the amusement park, the most exciting will be the GT roller coaster. In a twist on the traditional roller coaster, two carriages will race along twisting parallel tracks to the finish line. Each is a replica of a Ferrari F430 Spider.
Ferrari rollercoaster to allow ‘overtaking’
When Ferrari World opens its doors in Abu Dhabi later this year, fans of the prancing horse will be treated to a monster roller coaster with a difference. Riding in a Ferrari (of course), the ride will take thrill-seekers on a two kilometer journey at up to 95 kmh and because there are two cars running side-by-side, the roller coaster becomes a racetrack with a different “winner” each time.
