All on schedule as IKEA heads for the final straight on Yas
IKEA UAE, part of the Al-Futtaim group of companies, is all set to spearhead Yas Islands retail offering as more than 2200 workers make the Blue Box rise above scaffoldings and nodding cranes to ready the Swedish furnishing giant for business in the first quarter of next year. The 33,000sqm IKEA store more than three times the size of Abu Dhabi Marina Mall store and bigger than the 25,400sqm store in Dubai Festival City is a complete family destination and will form part of Yas Islands retail centre Yas Mall. The present IKEA store in Marina Mall will relocate to Yas Island.
Big 5: Mapei to spill beans on Italian job
The company will show off the products it used to complete Yas Island’s Ferrari World theme park. Global manufacturer of adhesives, sealants and chemical products for buildings, Mapei, is today showcasing its newest products used on the flagship Ferrari World theme park, which opened last month.

Ferrari World opens to the public on Yas Island
Park manager Andy Keeling told Construction Week on Thursday night that the first official day had been well attended. He said that the company was going through a soft opening phase before its official opening in December and that they had been running at “about 70%” on opening day to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Ferrari World public opening postponed
Park is one of several events to be be moved as the country mourns ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. Wednesday’s public opening of the first theme park dedicated to a sports car has been postponed. Official word from the team behind Ferrari World on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island was that a media event was still going ahead as planned, but that a public event would be delayed.
‘One-of-a-kind’ Ferrari World opens today
Turning a unique project from an idea to a reality, and within a short period of time, were the key challenges behind Ferrari World, the Yas Island theme park that opens today, according to those close to the project. Mohammad Al Mubarak, chief commercial officer at Aldar, the developer behind the multi-billion car-themed project, and Will Jones of landscapers Mesa Design Group, which provided the landscaping, told ConstructionWeek of the many challenges during design and construction.

Race to completion
Benoy has been involved in Ferrari World since before the beginning, with the project part of the architecture firm’s concept masterplan for Yas Island, working with Aldar, Ferrari, and the Abu Dhabi government.
