UAE TRA participates in Samena Beyond Connectivity 2011 conference
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) participated in the Samena “Beyond Connectivity 2011″ conference. H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General delivered a speech, as the Honorary Guest Speaker, for the opening ceremony on April 25. The event was held in the Yas hotel, Abu Dhabi from April 25 till 27.
Optimistic market emerging in UAE, says Aldar
Abu Dhabi-based developer Aldar Properties feels that a more optimistic buyer market is emerging in the region. “With Al Bandar next door completed more than 6 months ago, and with the attractions of Yas Island only minutes away, people are expressing more interest in these communities.”

IKEA opens Mideast’s biggest flagship store on Yas Island
IKEA UAE, part of Al-Futtaim group today opened for business on Yas Island and anticipates nearly 1.3 million visitors in the first year of operations at the 33,000sqm flagship store, one of Middle East’s largest.
IKEA’s flagship shop on Yas Island to open ‘later this week’
The largest IKEA store in the Middle East and North African region is set to open later this week, Aldar Properties said on Sunday. The 33,000 sq m store with a total sales area of 19,150 sq m will be the largest IKEA store in the MENA region and expects to serve nearly 1.3 million visitors in the first year of operations.
All for one
The first time I drove to Abu Dhabi from Dubai – an experience in itself that makes one wonder why the Formula One racetrack is confined to Yas Island, given the average speed of the motorists on this inter-emirate highway – I was struck by how ‘citified’ Abu Dhabi felt.
City of Islands & fauna
The majority of the islands are plane, sandy and uninhabited, but each has its own character of flora and fauna. Both Saadiyat Island and Yas Island on the outskirts of the Capital are being developed, and Saadiyat Island will soon become the cultural capital of Abu Dhabi, while Yas Island is home to Yas Marina Circuit.
Etihad holds Worldwide Staff Conference
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has held its 2011 Worldwide Staff Conference at the Yas Marina Circuit at Yas Island. The conference reflected on the airline’s growth since inception in 2003 and the results for 2010, which saw passenger numbers top seven million for the first time, with seat factor averaging 74%. Revenues were up 29.2% versus 2009 and Etihad began implementing annualised cost savings of $320m.
